Review Course Helps Prepare RNs For Certified Pediatric Nurse Exam

Cleveland Clinic is offering a Pediatric Nurse Review Course to help prepare registered nurses for the Certified Pediatric Nurse (CPN) Exam by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB).

PNCB’s certified pediatric nurse exam is often considered the most recognized and respected credential in pediatric nursing. It offers pediatric nurses numerous career benefits, such as increased compensation, enhanced career mobility and recognition of validated expertise by employers, colleagues, patients and families.

The exam is approximately three hours long and includes 175 multiple-choice questions. Cleveland Clinic’s Pediatric Nurse Review Course, which is taught by a number of highly experienced pediatric nurse faculty members, thoroughly covers potential exam content.

Cleveland Clinic’s review course is available to pediatric nurses as a three-part series that is being offered on March 12, March 19 and March 26. Each session begins at 8 a.m. and concludes at 12 p.m.

Sessions are designed to focus on key knowledge points for specific areas of study. Example agenda topics include:

• Monday, March 12: Growth and Development, Respiratory, GU/Fluid and Electrolytes
• Monday, March 19: Hematology, Cancer, Infectious Disease/Communicable Disease, Immune System, Neuro/Cognitive
• Monday, March 26: Cardiac, Psychosocial, Musculoskeletal, Endocrine, GI

After completing the three-part Pediatric Nurse Review Course, pediatric nurses will be better prepared to sit for the exam and will be able to:

• Discuss the holistic approach to assessment and care of pediatric patients.
• Describe the five stages of growth and development of pediatric patients.
• List common causes of conditions, such as gastrointestinal dysfunction and psychosocial problems.
• Recall various pediatric diseases and conditions, such as: infectious diseases, musculoskeletal and neuromuscular dysfunctions, endocrine dysfunctions, hematological disorders, respiratory illnesses, and neurological and cognitive dysfunctions.
• Identify illnesses in pediatric patients, such as: types of cancer, immune system disorders, fluid and electrolyte norms/issues, and common pediatric genitourinary dysfunctions.
