In its 5th year, Cleveland Clinic’s annual Nursing Innovation Summit is an inspirational event designed to explore the many ways healthcare is being transformed through nursing innovation. The 2017 summit, which has the theme “Nursing Innovation for Transformational Care,” will cover everything from the art and science of innovation to cultivating ideas for creative solutions.

The day-long event is intended for all nurses – no matter work role or title – including nurse leaders, clinicians, educators, quality and care coordinators, researchers and those who want to be or are engaged in advancing nursing knowledge and innovative practices.

“Nursing innovation is an amazing catalyst to creating value in healthcare,” says Lee Anne Siegmund, PhD, RN, CEP, Nurse Scientist for Cleveland Clinic’s Office of Nursing Research and Innovation and Chair of the Innovation Summit Planning Committee. “Through the creation of innovative solutions, nurses can improve patient outcomes, reduce healthcare costs, enhance nursing practice in today’s constantly changing healthcare environment, and truly take the lead in care transformation.”

Nursing innovation for transformational care

During the 5th Annual Nursing Innovation Summit, healthcare innovators, entrepreneurs and thought leaders will discuss topics such as:

  • The importance of nursing innovation for transformational care
  • Business opportunities and healthcare innovation
  • Success stories and challenges of innovation

In addition to numerous invited speakers, inventors and innovators, event keynote speakers include:

  • Sandra Davidson, PhD, RN, University of Alberta
    • Sandra Davidson is Associate Professor and Associate Dean at the University of Alberta, and one of the developers of the Master of Healthcare Innovation degree program at Arizona State University. Dr. Davidson is also lead author and editor of Leadership in Evidence-based Innovation in Nursing and Healthcare (2016), which was named Book of the Year by the American Journal of Nursing.
  • Kathryn Bowles, PhD, RN, FAAN, FACMI, University of Pennsylvania
    • Kathryn Bowles is van Ameringen Professor of Nursing Excellence at the University of Pennsylvania and the Vice President and Director of Home Care Policy and Research at the Visiting Nurse Service in New York. Dr. Bowles leads an innovative program of research in information, science and technology. She is also co-founder of RightCare Solutions, a software company recently acquired by Navihealth, a Cardinal Health Company.

The 5th Annual Nursing Innovation Summit will be held at the Huntington Convention Center in downtown Cleveland, near the shores of Lake Erie and adjacent to the Global Center for Health Innovation. The event begins at 8 a.m. EST and concludes at 4:30 p.m. EST. Continental breakfast and a lunch buffet will be provided.
