Named a Center of Excellence in Nursing Education

This year, the Stanley Shalom Zielony Institute for Nursing Excellence is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the Center of Excellence (COE) in Nursing Education designation by the Washington, D.C.-based National League for Nursing (NLN). Cleveland Clinic’s nursing institute oversees the practice and education of nearly 22,000 nurse caregivers throughout the Cleveland Clinic health system.

This designation is given to healthcare organizations and schools of nursing that have attained levels of excellence in specific areas. The nursing institute was honored for “demonstrating sustained, evidence-based and substantive innovation” in the category of Creating Workplace Environments that Promote the Academic Progression of Nurses.

“Education is such a large part of the foundation for nursing practice, and we strive to be innovative with the programs we offer,” says Executive Chief Nursing Officer K. Kelly Hancock, DNP, RN, NE-BC. “We value education, innovation and research, and encourage all our nurses to practice at the top of their licenses. Receiving this designation validates all our efforts, and we are so proud and humbled.”

The NLN is a membership organization for nurse faculty and leaders in nursing education with 33,000 individual and 1,200 institutional members. It began awarding COE designations to nursing schools in 2004, and the first designations for healthcare organizations were awarded in 2012. Cleveland Clinic is one of two health systems to receive this designation in 2017, and is now among five healthcare organizations that have the COE designation.

The nursing institute will be formally honored at the NLN Education Summit in mid-September in San Diego, California. The designation extends through 2021.
