In its second year, this educational and informative conference offers nurses added perspective on key issues and policies that are affecting patients and care delivery. Scheduled for Sept. 29, 2017, the conference is an all-day event with the morning hours highlighting current events and the afternoon hours focusing on how nurses can take action to positively impact and shape future policy.

“As a patient’s number one advocate, nurses are uniquely positioned to influence healthcare policy and legislation of key issues that affect bedside care and the professional practice of nursing,” says Meredith Lahl Foxx, MSN, PCNS-BC, PPCNP-BC, CPON, Associate Chief Nursing Officer of Advanced Practice Nursing and Executive Sponsor of Cleveland Clinic’s Nursing Legislative Council. “Nurses in any facet of the nursing profession – from the bedside to the boardroom – are encouraged and needed to have a voice in legislation to help improve access, affordability and quality of care.”

Enhance understanding, influence action

Broken out into two primary themes – ‘current events’ and ‘taking action’ – this exciting day will feature numerous presentations, guest speakers and educational sessions designed to inform nurses of issues and policies that are currently impacting care delivery, while guiding caregivers in a way that maximizes their ability to influence change.

The conference will open with an intriguing presentation on Ohio’s 2017 Health Value Dashboard by Amy Rohling McGee, President of the Health Policy Institute of Ohio. The sessions that follow will highlight current events, such as:

  • Ohio’s Opioid Crisis
  • Infant Mortality in Ohio
  • Ohio’s ‘Big Three’ Chronic Diseases
