Impact the Future of Healthcare with Knowledge from Health Policy Conference

At the end of September, nurses throughout Ohio will come together for an exciting day of learning, understanding and action at Cleveland Clinic’s 2018 Nursing Legislative & Health Policy Conference.

In its third year, this energizing and informative conference is designed to help nurses leverage their expertise to influence healthcare policy and legislation that impacts patients, communities and nursing practice.

“Throughout the continuum of practice – from bedside to boardroom and beyond – nurses lead the way in shaping health policy and improving access, affordability and quality of care,” says Catherine Skowronsky, MSN, RN, ACNS-BC, CMSRN, member of the conference planning committee and co-chair of the Cleveland Clinic Nursing Legislative and Health Policy Council. “As the healthcare landscape continues to undergo dramatic changes, nurses are poised with the unique opportunity to significantly impact our future.”

Step up and take action

Helping to guide nursing caregivers in a way that maximizes their ability to influence change, the one-day event will feature a combination of presentations, guest speakers and educational sessions.

The conference will open with a thought-provoking and compelling discussion from Margaret (Peggy) Halter, PhD, PMHCNS, of the Ohio Psychiatric Nurses Association and The Ohio State University. Not only is Halter a leader in psychiatric nursing, she also has an extremely strong background in health policy, having served on numerous boards and worked on policy initiatives throughout her career.

In addition to Halter, attendees will hear from a number of other leading industry experts, who will discuss important topics, such as:

• Trends in Mental Health Coverage.
• Human Trafficking.
• Opioid Crisis Updates.
• State of Ohio Legislation.
• Nursing Advocacy.

Near the close of the day, participants will garner new insight on The Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action, which will be presented by Cleveland Clinic’s Executive Director and Associate Chief Nursing Officer of Advanced Practice Nursing Meredith Lahl-Foxx, MBA, MSN, APRN, PCNS-BC, PPCNP-BC, CPON. Following the event, participants will engage in a fun and interactive shared group learning experience that will promote networking and identify opportunities and best practices for becoming an active advocate.

“We’ve been hosting the Nursing Legislative and Health Policy Conference for three years now and it’s truly become a one-of-a-kind event,” adds Mary McLaughlin Davis, DNP, CNS, who is also an event planning committee member and co-chair of the Legislative and Health Policy Council. “Each year, attendees openly comment on the incredible value gained from the added perspective this conference offers on key issues and policies that affect the patients we care for and the way we deliver care.”

The 2018 Nursing Legislative & Health Policy Conference will be held Friday, Sept. 28, in Building 4 of the Cleveland Clinic Administrative Campus in Beachwood, Ohio.
