Cleveland Clinic’s Wound Ostomy Continence (WOC) Nursing Education Symposium, being held April 10, 2015, in downtown Cleveland, is a full-day event featuring didactic lectures and presentations from leading wound care experts on various WOC-related topics.

The symposium is hosted by Cleveland Clinic’s WOC nursing education program, which is part of the health system’s prestigious R.B. Turnbull, Jr., MD, School of WOC Nursing, established in 1958 as the first WOC school in the world.

The symposium’s agenda covers the ins and outs of the latest innovations and advancements available within this unique specialty area and is ideal for healthcare professionals currently working within the WOC nursing field, as well as those interested in pursing a career in the specialty.

“WOC nursing is a niche area that is in high demand,” says Linda J. Stricker, MSN, RN, CWOCN, director of WOC nursing education for the Cleveland Clinic health system. “This educational event is designed to showcase and focus on the many innovative developments and techniques that are out there in the world of wound care.”

A sneak peek of event highlights

From nurses who specialize in WOC nursing to colorectal surgeons and other professional healthcare specialists, wound, ostomy and continence experts from Cleveland Clinic, Wayne State University and Welmedix will highlight topics such as:

  • International Skin Tear Advisory Panel (ISTAP) guidelines for skin tear classification
  • Documentation standards
  • Vascular wounds
  • Deep tissue injury pressure ulcer among elderly patients
  • Importance of research for wound, ostomy and continence nursing

The symposium begins with registration and breakfast as well as an exhibit hall at 7 a.m. EST with the welcome address slated for 8 a.m. EST. The symposium is being held at the InterContinental Hotel and Bank of America Conference Center and will conclude at 4:30 p.m. EST.
