According to the latest data from the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients, the program continues to have excellent one- and three-year renal graft and patient survival.
The program has short waiting times to kidney transplant. The average wait for a kidney transplant at St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital was 18 months, which is considerably less than at other transplant centers in the region and nationwide.
Of particular interest is the program’s mean length of hospital stay for kidney transplants. This has been significantly reduced to three days, compared with the national average of six days.
Referrals and evaluations for kidney-pancreas transplants continue to increase. The program began performing kidney-pancreas transplants in 2012. Published results show 100 percent patient and graft survival.
St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital has a dedicated 11-bed unit for kidney and kidney-pancreas transplant patients, as well as an outpatient transplant clinic. The transplant program evaluates patients from throughout the United States and receives more than 600 referrals annually.
The program continues to expand its outreach to improve patient access to transplant services throughout Indiana.
